Pro-Pork Lawmaker Says Million People March Protesters are Against “Dirt Poor”

These Million People March protesters want the “dirt poor” to starve, a pro-pork barrel lawmaker insinuated.

A statement by a statist lawmaker, who argued that the retention of the much maligned, graft-ridden Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) is favorable to the “dirt poor”, makes me facepalm.

“Dirt poor” Isabela Representative and Deputy Speaker Giorgidi Aggabao strongly rejected pork barrel abolion despite Monday’s successful Million People March, saying it’s anti-poor.

Socialist Aggabao, a product of DLSA elite schooling (De La Salle-Ateneo), said of the Million People March peaceful protesters: “PDAF is not for them. It is for the class, the dirt poor.”

No, Mr. Aggabao, the pork barrel merely benefitted corrupt politicians and their cronies. Where have you been? Haven’t you heard the people’s cry yesterday? They want the graft-ridden pork barrel abolished, not replaced or overhauled!

Also, President BS Aquino did not abolish PDAF; he merely replaced it with his own “transparent” and still unnamed pork mechanism. So, stop trying to fool the people by acting as if the political patronage allocation system had been totally scrapped.

Aggabao was lead prosecutor during the Corona impeachment trial for Article III (lack of competence, integrity, probity and independence in allowing the Supreme Court to act on mere letters filed by a counsel; in allowing his wife’s appointment to office; and in discussing with litigants’ cases pending in the Supreme Court).

Other self-claimed pro-dirt poor lawmakers, namely, Reps. Mel Senen Sarmiento (LP, Western Samar), Tupay Loong (NP, Sulu) and Romeo Acop (NPC, Rizal), have also rejected calls for the total abolition of the pork barrel.

Here’s a report from Manila Bulletin:

While LP is supporting Aquino’s declaration for the scrapping of PDAF, Sarmiento said. the poor and the needy must remain in the priority list of recipients of the services funded by it.

“We’ve done our share but services of government should not stop especially for the poor and the needy,” said Sarmiento, LP secretary general and head of the House contingent to the powerful Commission on Appointments.

Acop condemned those behind the pork barrel fund scamps that resulted in misspending reaching billions of pesos.

“The people are entitled to their opinion and freedoms/rights. In the exercise of such they also have responsibilities to condemn only those who abused their PDAF/ Justice/fairness dictates that only those who have done wrong be punished,”

Loong said solons facing charges of misusing their fund should no longer be entitled to PDAF.

“It is unfair to deny those who committed no wrongdoing to be denied access to it,” he added.

What these statist politicians said merely reflects their socialist mindset. That’s why I don’t buy the “no pork” spin of the leftist party-list politicians. They’re just paying lip service to pork barrel abolition to fool and woo idealistic voters. Their anti-pork barrel abolition statements strongly confirmed these 10 reasons why lawmakers’ perks will never be abolished.

The goal of statist politicians, like Aggabao and his ilk, is to perpetrate a crime or institutionalized plunder/corruption in the name of the poor. That’s actually what tyrants did in the past. Polpot, Mao, Kim Il Sung, among others destroyed nations and enslaved their own people always in the name of the poor and the greater good.

The only elitist here is Aggabao and his comrades like Teddy Casino, Neri Colmenares, Liza Maza, Satur Ocampo, Risa Hontiveros, among others who have this delusional, elitist belief they can save the poor through unjust wealth redistribution, which is the real cause of corruption in the country.

Perhaps they’ve convinced themselves they’re the modern-day Messiah of the poor.
